Standing at the edge of a cliff can make you nervous. Even when you are six feet from the edge, you can feel scared as if you could fall for no good reason. Connecting to the heart center can be equally confronting.
Thankfully, you can gradually build up your courage by starting with short meditation sessions of a few breaths and gradually increasing the duration, perhaps up to 10 minutes.
When you sit, allow yourself to feel happiness by smiling into your heart center and fully embracing the present moment. Connecting with the heart center can be as simple as closing your eyes and sensing the sensations around the sternum.
You can take your time to slowly feel the heart center, or you can boldly and quickly direct your light, love, and smiles directly into the center of your chest. You won’t miss or waste any. Don’t overthink it. Create space by lengthening your exhalations, and then fill yourself with both emptiness and abundance.
Listen deeply and sense the natural and continuous movements of the breath: the chest expanding with inhalation and the belly gently flattening with exhalation. The heart will guide you to truly experience relaxation by softening and fully embodying the present moment.
Engaging in periodic meditation and focusing on the breath is a powerful way to maintain balance when life brings you close to the edge.
