Embrace Courage and Manage Anxiety: A Breathing Exercise for a Fresh Start

The clearing rain in Australia brings relief to parched landscapes, rejuvenating the earth with nourishing water after weeks of drought. We can recognize the value of anxiety and concern as an internal warning system. Whether we understand their roots or not, we have the ability to address them. Addressing potential issues and acknowledging risks gives us the opportunity to move in the desired direction. So today is a day to find the courage to embark on a new adventure. Embrace the opportunity and take the leap.

As the rain subsides, the distinctive beeping calls of the Australian noisy miner birds fill the air—a harmonious chorus signaling the return of growth to the rejuvenated terrain.

Today, you possess the courage to embrace a new adventure. Seize the opportunity.

Here’s a courage-building breathing exercise to help manage anxiety:

  • Find a quiet, comfortable space.
  • Close your eyes and take two full breaths, with a special focus on the exhalation and the pause after exhalation, to help center yourself.

Now, let’s add some timing:

  • Inhale deeply for a count of four, allowing your lungs to expand fully, encompassing the front, sides, and back of the chest.
  • Exhale slowly for a count of six, releasing tension and anxiety.
  • Hold the exhalation for a count of four.
  • Repeat the process, visualizing courage with each inhalation. This courage embodies determination, resilience, and strength in the face of adversity, manifesting in both bold and subtle actions. Embrace the notion that courage resides within you.
  • Exhale slowly for a count of six, releasing tension and anxiety.

Open your eyes and move forward with renewed confidence and courage
