The breath gives clarity to our understanding of the movement. That focus on the breath allows participation in the movement to feel that it is part of you and you are part of the breath.
The movement of the body doesn’t always give an understanding of the breath. Awareness of the breath due to the actions of the body, doesn’t give an understanding of the movement.
But understanding the breath will give a greater understanding of the movement.
A run can be just a run, cooking your favourite meal can be just a dalliance in the kitchen. Your fingers may get sore when practicing. But when you bring the breath as your guide, your coach, your friend and your teacher, there is oodles of specific connections to the body and you realise the actions you are doing in that moment.
When you are with the breath, there is a bridge of body, mind and consciousness.
Some of your actions can be handled with little variation to your heartbeat. Some actions will take your breath to the limits. When you are working hard, the smallest increase in work can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back leaving you struggling for breath.
Knowing where you are at with your breath can help you prioritise your efforts. So when one task is more important than the others, your breath will help you through those challenges, energising the body, giving a constant update and it is up to you to take notice so you can focus on the extra work, maintain balance, and mindfully continue.
The breath does more than simply energising the body with fresh energy and removing what is not needed. The breath gives clarity to our understanding of our actions.
Giving you an update on where you are at, here and now. That focus and control of the breath gives you greater control over what you are about to do.
